Orono, Minnesota Real Estate

Orono is a city located on the north shores of Lake Minnetonka in Hennepin County. This is on the west side of the Minneapolis-St. Paul area with a population of a little over 7500 people. Orono became a city in 1955 and has always been a very sought after place to live because of Lake Minnetonka. It has a landmass of 25 mi.² and almost 9 mi.² of it is water. If you're looking for lakefront that somewhat reasonably priced, Orono is a great option along with Mound.

One of the predominant neighborhoods in Orono is Crystal Bay. Lake Minnetonka is made up of a series of bays and smaller sections of the lake all being connected together. County Road 15 Weaves Its Way through Lake Minnetonka all the way out past Mound.

One of the big things that is changed in real estate in this area like several other areas in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, people are starting to tear down the smaller older homes and replace them with new construction. Those lots come at a premium and you have a lot of work to do with the city to stay compliant with lot lines and lakeshore.

You can find real estate that is not on the water but even those homes come at a premium because of their proximity to the lake. Also many of them have deeded lake access. If you grow up on Lake Minnetonka, you tend to never leave. It's one of the most beautiful areas of Minneapolis.

My clients really like Orono because it's on the north side of Lake Minnetonka and in the ways that a school district. That's probably one of the biggest draws for the people I've sold homes to. Working as a real estate agent in Orono, I've learned a lot about the bays and the areas along with the different sections of the lake like Browns Bay and Crystal Bay. It's definitely different than the west side of the lake over by Mound. Home prices tend to be a bit higher overall and there are more luxury homes in this section of the lake. If you're considering a move to Lake Minnetonka I always recommend to my clients to be open-minded and look at the lake as a whole. Check out all areas you may find something you love in Excelsior which is on the south side.
