Minnetonka, Minnesota Real Estate

Minnetonka is located in Hennepin County and is one of the far west suburbs of the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. It's one of the oldest suburbs in the Twin Cities and has a long-standing tradition for great education and of course it's beautiful lakes. It's home to some of the largest companies in the world including Cargill as well as United Healthcare. Minnetonka has a total of 28.22 mi.² with over 1.29 mi.² of that water.

There is still some new construction in Minnetonka from time to time as some of the older farmers sell off the remaining lots. You can still find wooded lots in established neighborhoods but they come at a premium in price. People love Minnetonka because of the variety of shopping, including Ridgedale Mall, the lakes and the ease of commute to downtown Minneapolis.

Most of the homes were built in the 1950s 60s and 70s. But the trend that we've seen in Edina is now caring into Minnetonka where people are buying smaller homes, tearing them down and building new construction. That's very evident on Lake Minnetonka itself. As a home buyer you can still find homes of all shapes, sizes and price ranges to suit your needs and budget. Predominantly single-family homes, you can also find townhomes and condominiums. As well as a variety of lakefront properties.

As a real estate agent selling homes in Minnetonka, I've learned that you really have to divide the city into two parts. The first part would be like Minnetonka itself as well as all the surrounding areas including Mound, Deephaven, Minnetrista as well as Wayzata. Those are typically the lake buyers that either want to be on lakefront or be near the lake. The other half of Minnetonka are the people that just like the suburb and what it has to offer. You can still find some new construction in Minnetonka because the landmass is such that there always seems to be a few new pockets opening up. You can also find raw land for sale and build on your own those lots come at a premium. My clients seem to like the Hopkins school district which services Minnetonka as much as the Minnetonka school district. Both of them are award winners and very good. So my clients have moved to Minnetonka for a variety of reasons, all of them unique in their own way.
