Farmington Minnesota Real Estate

Farmington is an outer ring suburb located about 35 miles south of downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul. Located in Dakota County it's one of the oldest communities in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Known for all of its farm's, that is how it got its name. It is the home for the Dakota County fair which is one of the largest county fairs in the state of Minnesota supported by 4-H clubs. On the fairgrounds you can find Dakota city which is a throwback in time to the early 1900s.

Farmington school District 192 has five elementary schools including Aiken, Farmington elementary, Meadowview, North Trail and Riverview Elementary grades K through five. There middle schools grades six through eight are Boeckman and Dodge. There is one high school grades nine through 12 the Farmington high school.

Many families looking to purchase home south of the river turned to Farmington because of their variety of homes and the prices. You get more for your money in Farmington then the inner ring suburbs. You can find homes of all ages and styles from the older homes in the downtown area to the larger newer neighborhoods that have been built from the 1980s on. There is still plenty of new construction in Farmington if you're looking for that as well.

As a real estate agent selling homes in the Farmington area, I've really watched a huge change take place in the city over the last 20+ years. It really used to feel like a farm town and has been transformed into a suburb. Like Elko New Market, I will show my clients Farmington as an alternative to Lakeville because of the value in the cost of homes. Farmington has kept up with the building of new construction so it offers a huge variety and price ranges for my clients. I've also sold homes in Farmington to buyers who work in Hastings that would like to be a little bit closer to the Twin Cities area and don't mind the 20 minute commute. Farmington is a great option for you if you're living south of the Twin Cities and you want to get more for your money.
