Burnsville is considered to be the Gateway to the "south of the river suburbs". Located just across the Minnesota River, it's less than 25 minutes to downtown Minneapolis or St. Paul. Interstate 35 divides in Burnsville. 35E goes directly to downtown St. Paul, while 35W goes directly to downtown Minneapolis.

Burnsville has many attractions including the Burnsville Center, the Murphy-Hanrehan Park reserve, the Minnesota Valley national wildlife refuge as well as Buck Hill. A lot of the homes in Burnsville were built in the 60s and the 70s but new construction has continued all the way to present day. The homes come in all styles and price ranges. You can find townhomes, condominiums, and single-family homes. Prices start around $125,000 and go all the way up to 1 million+ dollars.

Burnsville has created a downtown area called the heart of the city that has two theaters, 1000 seat stage in an intimate 150 seat black box at the Ames performing arts Center. They offer lots of different shopping including all of the conveniences of grocery stores and restaurants.

The main high school is Burnsville high school, there are three junior high schools including Eagle Ridge junior high, John Metcalf junior high and Joseph Nicolet Junior high. There are 10 elementary schools including Harriet Bishop, Edward D Neill, Gideon Pond, hidden Valley, Marion W Savage, Rahn, Sue Trail, sky Oaks, Vista view and William Byrne.

As a licensed real estate agent working in Burnsville, I can tell you it's a wonderful city to live in. I meet a lot of buyers in the Bloomington and Richfield area that I bring down to Burnsville because of the difference in value. Richfield and Bloomington being inner ring suburbs command a higher price for a smaller home. If you don't have to live in either one of those communities for a specific reason, that I always offer up Burnsville as an option as well. It's the first city that you hit when you cross the Minnesota River on Interstate 35. What Burnsville brings to the table versus the inner ring suburbs are homes that are anywhere from 20 to 30 years newer. That gives you more choices with split entries, four level splits and three-level splits. Versus some of the inner-ring suburbs that have fewer choices in styles of homes.
