Shakopee is located in Scott County and is the southwest corner of the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. It's also considered another one of the suburbs that is south of the river or south of the Minnesota River. Its neighbors are Prior Lake and Savage. The total area of the city is 29.32 mi.² with an average of almost 40,000 residents.
Shakopee has expanded greatly over the last decade due to the expansion of Highway 169 which crosses the river and goes directly through Shakopee as it heads down to Mankato Minnesota. Many people look to purchase and Shakopee because of all of the new construction. You have beautiful homes to choose from in all price ranges with large neighborhoods. Retail, shopping and restaurants have completely caught up to the growth and offer lots of variety.
Shakopee is known for hosting some of the biggest hot spots in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area including, Canterbury card club and racetrack and Valleyfair amusement park just to name a few.
Shakopee has really become my go to suburb in the southwest corner of the Twin Cities. Selling real estate in Shakopee over all of these years, I've really learned a lot about the details some of the biggest changes that I've seen in just the last 10 years have been the expansion of all of the retail on County Road 21 as well as 17. They have everything you could want now from a retail perspective where is years ago it was mostly the smaller shops in downtown Shakopee. One of the biggest draws for me as a real estate agent to show Shakopee as an option to buyers is the variety of homes, the prices as well as the newer construction. They have a lot of existing construction that was built in the 60s and 70s which is always a great option but they also have a lot of townhomes and newer construction homes. So there's a huge variety for all home buyers. It's a quick commute up 169 and before you know it in her Bloomington so I've sold homes to people in Shakopee that are commuting to the southwest suburbs. If you don't mind a little bit longer of a commute, shocked to be can be a great option.
