Mound is one of the center points for Lake Minnetonka. It's a total of 4.96 mi.² and 2.10 mi.² is water. Many people who like to live on the lake, prefer amount because of the amount of choices of homes. Plus a very close to retail and restaurants.
Mound is the birthplace of Tonka trucks named after Lake Minnetonka. The headquarters were originally in mound but moved to facilitate all of its deliveries and expansion to Minneapolis. Mound is about a 30 to 35 minute drive to downtown Minneapolis depending on traffic. It is also home to Bruno Kelly and the infamous "ring toss" incident.
Some of the home buyers looking to purchase on Lake Minnetonka will also look at the surrounding cities of Minnetrista, Long Lake, Deep Haven and Navarre. Located off County Road 15 and 494 you wind your way through beautiful views of Lake Minnetonka and many of its fantastic bays.
There are plenty of homes for sale in this area that are reasonably priced. Not all of them are on the lake but many of them have Lake access should you want to have a boat. It's one of the most sought after areas in the western suburbs of Minneapolis.
I personally spent a lot of time in Mound growing up. So many my friends were from that area that I got to know Lake Minnetonka inside and out. So selling homes in mound has always been fun for me because I know the area so well. It's a bit further of a drive when you're looking at the lake as a whole because it's on the west side. But the nice thing is there's lots of homes for sale where you may not be directly on the water but it has Lake access. So you'll have a dock and you can keep a boat on the water. Several of my clients also consider Spring Park, Navarre as well as long Lake although that particular area is a little bit more pricey. Mound is essentially just straight out County Road 15 off of 394/Highway 12. The one rub is that if you are commuting to downtown Minneapolis, be prepared to take your time because the drive can be slow some days. The upside is, it is a beautiful view.
