The history goes all the way back to the mid-1800s and was mostly just a farming community. The Township began to form in the mid-to-late 1950s and all of the residential homes started being built around 1955. One of the largest builders of the time was Oren Thompson who built a lot of the entry-level single-family homes. County Road 42 in Cedar Avenue is the center of Apple Valley. It seems as though all development has spread from that area.
There is ample shopping in Apple Valley including target, Best Buy, Walmart, Bachmann's and every other type of restaurant and store you can think of. Apple Valley transit has expanded now with several bus stops that will take you anywhere in the city. In addition there working on moving the light rail system down through Apple Valley in the future from the mall of America.
Apple Valley is a southern suburb located 20 minutes south of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Either city is very easy to commute to. Apple Valley is located in Dakota County which is one of the larger counties in the seven county metro area.
There are six elementary schools including Cedar Park, diamond path, Greenleaf, Highland, with Southview and Westview. There are three middle schools, falcon Ridge, Scott Highlands and Valley middle school. The high schools depending on your area are Apple Valley high school and Eastview high school.
Home prices range from around $100,000 all the way up to $1 million plus. All types of properties from single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums. Most of Apple Valley has been completely built out so it's existing construction at this point.
My experience as a real estate agent working with buyers and sellers in Apple Valley is that many that live there, have grown up there. 20 years ago the only thing on the corner of Cedar Avenue and County Road 42 was a Burger King. Now they have a Walmart, SuperTarget, Best Buy and every other possible shop and restaurant you can think of. Many of the buyers I have helped in Apple Valley chose the location because of Cedar Avenue and its proximity to downtown. I've always liked Apple Valley because of the variety of homes that are for sale and that you can still get really good homes at good prices.
